HUDDERSFIELD have suffered a double injury blow ahead of next week’s clash against Saints.
Midfielder Aaron Mooy has been ruled out until February with a knee injury and club captain Tommy Smith is out for a month after tearing his left hamstring.
The duo both suffered the injuries in Huddersfield’s 1-0 defeat at Arsenal last Saturday.
Smith was carried from the pitch on a stretcher during the club’s third successive defeat, while Australia international Mooy has now been ruled out of next month’s Asian Cup.
“The 28-year-old suffered a tear to the medial collateral ligament in his right knee in Saturday’s Premier League game at Arsenal,” Huddersfield said in a statement.
“After consulting a specialist on Tuesday, he has been ruled out until February.”
Mooy, who played a key role in the Terriers’ promotion and their subsequent survival in the Premier League, scored his first goals of the season in Huddersfield’s 2-0 win at Wolves two weeks ago.
He said: “I’m gutted to be missing an important time for club and country.”
