Baseball: Knowlton pitches Burlington Central to victory

Burlington Central junior Andrew Knowlton struck out 10, scattered 9 hits and walked none in an 8-3, complete-game victory over Woodstock North in Kishwaukee River Conference action Tuesday.

Knowlton jumped ahead in the count with first-pitch strikes to 23 of 30 hitters he faced. Colton Wallace went 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI for Central (9-8, 6-1).

Aurora Central Catholic 10, Ridgewood 0: Nate Sundberg pitched 4⅔ scoreless innings and Mike Elliott drove in 3 runs as ACC (15-7, 5-2) split the 2-game Metro Suburban Red series.

Batavia sweeps Wheaton Warrenville South: The Bulldogs finished off Monday's suspended game 11-4 and won the DuKane Conference nightcap 2-1 behind Brad Niedzwiedz, who pitched 6 innings, struck out 7, walked 2 and allowed 1 run on 2 hits. Ryan Jerger earned the save. Cole Nelson (double) had 2 hits for Batavia (11-7, 5-4).

St. Charles North 6, Lake Park 1: Zach Kempe (2-0) pitched 6 innings of 1-hit baseball with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts to lead St. Charles North (13-6, 8-1) in the DuKane Conference.

Streamwood 6, East Aurora 3: Scott Wolfard hit a 2-run double to key a 4-run eighth inning for Streamwood (11-8, 9-5) in an Upstate Eight win.

Larkin 7, Elgin 5: Ed Wisser held the Maroons to 4 earned runs over 5⅔ innings and struck out 7, and Thomas Woodruff tripled and drove in a run to lead Larkin (2-16, 2-11) in an Upstate Eight win at Trout Park. Kyle Coates was the hard-luck losing pitcher. He allowed 5 runs but only one earned due to 4 errors by Elgin (0-16, 0-11).

Cary-Grove 3, Crystal Lake Central 1: Jack Wenninger threw a 6-hitter with 6 strikeouts and no walks in a Fox Valley Conference win for Cary-Grove (14-4, 8-2).

Aurora Christian 11, Guerin 2: MJ Stavola went 3-for-4 with a home run and 4 RBI to lead Aurora Christian (6-4-1, 6-0) in the Metro Suburban Red.

Loyola Academy 15, Marmion 14: Jake Carlson hit a grand slam and drove in 5 runs and Mitch Nieweglowski homered, doubled and drove in 2 runs in a Chicago Catholic League Blue loss for Marmion (4-8).

Kaneland 10, DeKalb 0: Nic Panico struck out 8, walked a pair and held the Barbs scoreless on 1 hit in a 5-inning Northern Illinois Big XII East win for Kaneland (15-7, 6-1).
