Fans were hoping his cryptic message on social media meant he had brought the uncertainty to an end after he tweeted the word: 'TOMORROW' with a pair of eyes.

But supporters were left frustrated at his second tweet with many reacting angrily after their hopes had been raised.

One fan simply responded: 'NOOOOOO' while another said 'I'm not happy Paul'.

Pogba had a frustrating 2019-20 season, playing just seven games before undergoing surgery on a persistent ankle injury in January.

But coronavirus suspension allowed the 27-year-old to recover from injury and play an important role in United qualifying for next season's Champions League.

He also began to develop a promising partnership with Bruno Ferndandes in the United midfield and appears to be on good terms with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer once again.

Supporters have been encouraged by what they've seen from the World Cup winner since his return from injury and are hoping he will continue to get back to his best form in a United shirt.

Several fans replied to the midfielder's first tweet with the word: 'POGTRACT' while others simply demanded: 'Announce the contract'.

But some supporters guessed his original message could be related to his sponsorship deal with Adidas.

Atletico Madrid's Saul Niguez suffered a similar backlash after he tweeted in May that he would 'announce a new club' in three days.

The defender has been linked with a move to the Premier League but his 'new club' turned out to be a football academy called 'Costa City' in his hometown of Elche.
