Dancing On Ice: Jane Danson and Ryan Sidebottom are ELIMINATED in shock double-axing

Jane Danson and Ryan Sidebottom are the latest celebrity contestants to be booted from Dancing on Ice, along with their respective partners Sylvain Longchambon and Brandee Malto.

Corrie actress Jane and England cricket star Ryan were beaten by pop star Melody Thornton and her partner Alexander Demetriou - who the judges opted to save in the double elimination.

Melody and Alexander - dancing to Christina Aguilera's Fighter - got through to next week, with the other two couples being sent home.

Following her elimination from the ITV programme, Jane, 40, said: 'Thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity. I wish I could have stayed but I think the right people have gone through.

'It's just been the best experience of my life.'

Ryan, 41, was similarly gracious in defeat, saying the experience had been 'really cool'; he seemed overcome with emotion, claiming he'd still be skating, but with his children instead.

Meanwhile, Ryan previously admitted Dancing on Ice was the 'hardest thing' he's ever done.

He said: 'Make no mistake, it's definitely the hardest thing I've ever done but it's been so much fun and I've had such wonderful support from the public with many lovely messages on Twitter and Instagram.'

He also revealed that his skating-related fame had surpassed anything he'd previously experienced.

Ryan shared: 'It's weird, you get known for playing cricket but now it seems like 'Dancing On Ice' is more important and it's quite hard to get my head around. People have been so kind and supportive and it means a lot.

'Skating is really difficult but I'm really enjoying the ride and am just trying to give it my best.'

This has left five pairs continuing on into the competition, with next week's show a 'Time Tunnel' theme.

Judge Jason Gardiner was on hand to dish out his monotonous catty remarks, quick to make underhand digs to Jane and Sylvain, before they learnt they were going home - with Sylvain sticking up for his partner as a result, causing Jason to pipe down.

There was no drama to speak of, however, largely thanks to the fact Sunday was the first episode without Gemma Collins, who was voted out last week alongside her skating partner Matt Evers.

Dancing On Ice returns next Sunday at 6PM on ITV.
