'I just felt broken': The Voice's Matt Gresham tearfully recalls the devastating loss of his musician friend Luke Liang

The Voice's Matt Gresham has recalled the heartbreaking loss of his musician friend Luke Liang.

Speaking to Who magazine, the aspiring singer said he did not take the news of Luke's sudden death well when he lost his battle with depression back in August 2018.

'It felt like… it really hurt me in a way that I can't really explain. I just felt broken. I felt really nervous all of a sudden,' he said.

Luke was a member of the band Papa vs Pretty, as well as a friend and collaborator with Guy Sebastian.

He explained to the publication that they were close friends after spending plenty of time together on tour for two years.

'I think when you spend so much time with someone, it's a different friendship. You can have your buddies and that, but if you're with them every single day for such a long time and they're gone, you're like, "Woah." he said.

'We were like brothers, you know? It was hard. It took me nine months to get over the first stage, I'll probably never get over it, but just to live a normal life.' 

The Voice coach Guy was also rocked by Luke's death. He was inspired to write the hit song 2019 hit song Choir as a tribute to their late musician friend. 

Matt, who hails from Western Australia, was also diagnosed with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder).

He told the magazine that over time he has been able to cope with his mental health struggles by talking to trusted confidants about their feelings and maintaining a  healthy diet and regular exercise.

Matt also revealed that he does cold water therapy every day.

During his blind audition, he told the coaches: 'about two years ago I suffered with some really bad PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and depression and basically just quit music.

'I haven't really been able to do anything until this.'
