Weekend Open Thread, Part One

Good Morning and Skol Vikings!

I mentioned in the Words No One Reads™ yesterday that since the Vikings play today at Noon Central Time I was going to split the weekend thread into two parts. Look for the game thread to post around the usual time, remember no GIFs in the game threads please. Tomorrow’s thread will post at the usual time. Meanwhile, let’s carry on with our news and links open thread full of beer recommendations, nap strategies, crock pot and smoker recipes. Drop by for some fan wisdom, snark and go to the tailgate early, I heard the food is good but the company is better.

Around the DN since our last open thread:

Vikings reach injury settlement with Kevin McDermott per Chris.

Construction around U.S. Bank Stadium could cause issues for Saturday’s game.

Climbing The Pocket: Episode 164 [Chicken Wars] featuring Jordan, Myles, Yinka and Jason.

Fanpost from GA Skol: Unofficial DN Survival Pick’em Group

Vikings news from other sources:

From Vikings.com Final Thoughts: Saturday may be more about auditions than dress rehearsal.

Shared Heritage: 7 Vikings connect through culture and customs.

The Skinny Post: Vikings starters expected to see extensive action vs. Cardinals.

League news:

It’s that time for one of my favorite series every year Deadspin’s “Why Your Team Sucks” by Drew Magary. The most recent team to get roasted are the Philadelphia Eagles. I’ll update the teams as they are posted.

From NFL.com Who’ll prove doubters wrong in 2019? Is Cardinals’ offense soft?

Panthers ‘cautiously optimistic’ Cam Newton plays Week 1.

Titans OL Taylor Lewan officially suspended 4 games.

We come to today’s media selection: Alice In Chains - The Rooster

Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Leave the gender hatred at the door
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don’t forget to tip your waiter, try the tailgate and Welcome Aboard!
