Snow in hills, drizzle in Dehradun

It snowed in the higher reaches of the hills and drizzled in Dehradun on Wednesday morning, adding to the chill of the winter. The high-altitude places where it snowed included Chakrata and Dhanaulti. Light rain accompanied with cold wind occurred in Dehradun in the morning.

The Regional Meteorological Centre officers said that the rain/snow has helped the maximum temperature dip by three to four notches which accounts for the chill of the winter here. They further said that rainy spell would continue in the hills of the State on Thursday too and the places situated at a height of 2500 metres and more would witness moderate to heavy snowfall on the day. 

In its daily weather forecast, the Met officers said that the sky would remain generally to partly cloudy across Uttarakhand with possibility of light rain in the higher reaches of the hills in several districts of the State on Thursday. Besides, there is a likelihood of snowfall in the places located at altitude of 2500 metre and above.

They further said that the maximum temperature has plummeted by three to four notches in most of the places across the State and this was what brought about the long-awaited winter chill. As per the forecast, Dehradun would have cloudy to partly sky. As per the forecast, the minimum temperature would dip further from Friday after the weather clears. 

Meanwhile, Chakrata in Dehradun district and Dhanaulti near Mussoorie received snow, said the weather officers.

Besides, cold winds swept across the State after it rained and snowed early in the morning. The mercury has been plummeting across the State and the minimum temperature has dipped down to 1.3 degree Celsius at Mukteshwar in Nainital district of Kumaon region. It is likely to dip further, said the Met officers.

Dehradun woke up to cloudy sky and rain on Wednesday morning. The morning was windy and the maximum temperature came down by at least three degrees.

In Dehradun, while the maximum temperature settled at 20.7 degree Celsius, one notch below the normal, the minimum was 9.6 degree Celsius, two notches above the normal on Wednesday. The maximum temperature is likely to remain the same on Thursday while the maximum might come down.

Elsewhere in the State, in Pantnagar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 18 degree Celsius, five notches below normal and 6.9 degree Celsius, one degree above the normal, respectively on Wednesday.

At Mukteshwar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 6.4 degree Celsius, eight notches below the normal, and 1.3 degree Celsius, three notches below the normal.

In New Tehri, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded were 8.8 degree Celsius and 4 degree Celsius respectively.
