Desi humour goes viral on social media

Being active on social media is normal these days. Everyone around is seen on one or more of the various social media platforms sharing pictures and videos with family, friends and strangers alike. One such duo from Ranchi has gained tremendous popularity while dubbing videos on the well known social media App MadLipz.

Md. Akram Ali (25) and Md. Ashfaque Ullah (33) are known for making voice over videos on the App in the local dilect of Ranchi. They started making these videos just for fun in November 2018 and now have a massive fan following. Many of their videos have gone viral on Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram. The two also have their own YouTube channel by the name of “akki ali”. “Initially we just thought of making these videos for fun. But on sharing them with our friends, when they found it funny, we were encouraged to make more of them,” said Akram.

Their popular videos include ‘Andawa Andawa re’, ‘Thanda pad rahu abri’ and ‘Agja hua ka chachu’ among others. “We were very happy with the response we received. We want to work as dubbing artists in animated movies and wish to get an opportunity soon. We want to make a career and hope to make a mark for ourselves in the film industry”, said Akram Ali. Their YouTube channel has close to 10,000 subscribers and of their videos have over 30,000 viewers. Akram handles the all the online accounts and uploads the videos.

Ashfaque has been paralysed for the past four years. “I feel very happy on making these videos. I feel proud that I am able to make people laugh. My family also enjoys our videos and makes it a point to see all of them,” he said.

Ashfaque runs a readymade garment shop for men while Akram has an accessory shop for women which they manage with their families in Doranda, Ranchi and make these videos in their free time.
