PM lays foundation of Jamshedpur Women's University

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday laid the foundation stone of Jamshedpur Women's University online from Srinagar. The event was witnessed on the campus of Jamshedpur Women's College in Bistupur where Chief Minister Raghubar Das was also present.

The programme was also attended by vice chancellor of Kolhan University Shukla Mahanty, East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amit Kumar along with other officials from Kolhan University. The live streaming was arranged both inside the Indoor Stadium and outside the stadium in the college ground.

 The online foundation stone laying of the upgradation of Jamshedpur Women's University took place along with other projects - 66 entrepreneurship and incubation centres, 54 new Model Degree Colleges and setting up of 11 Professional Colleges worth Rs 3,300 crores as a part of the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) second phase.

The Prime Minister interacted with students from various states. He took questions on agriculture, tourism, poverty, education and the use of technology.

On answering a question to a student from Hyderabad who asked if the Prime Minister was satisfied with the higher education scenario in the country, the PM said, “I am satisfied that we are progressing with our targets on higher education as per the time table. My dream is to make a scenario where foreign students will come to India to pursue their higher studies. Such should be our global standards.”

Chief Minister Raghubar Das in his address prior to the digital launch congratulated the college that is being upgraded to a university now. He motivated young girls to study and gain expertise in their respective fields.

 “It is a historic moment, Jharkhand will get a women’s university after more than 70 years of independence. Under RUSA, the state will contribute Rs 56 crore while the centre will contribute Rs 33 crore for the university that would come up in Sidhgora (second campus),” said Das.

He stated that on the lines of Centre’s ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme , the State Government on January 24, launched Sukanya Yojana with an aim to check dropout rates of girls in school and maternal mortality rate (MMR).

The Chief Minister highlighted the progress the state has witnessed in higher education claiming that the enrolment rate of girls in higher education in 2010-11 was just 10.1 percent, which in 2017-18 has jumped to 18 percent.  “In 2014, when the NDA Government came into power there were only five universities in state.

 Four new universities were set up in last four years. With coming up of Women’s University in State the number of universities in State will go up to 10. The number of private universities in State has gone up to 15 from four in 2014,” added Das.

The Chief Minister stated that his Government is much focused and serious in girls’ education and in this direction women’s colleges will be set up in 11 districts of state along with setting up a women’s engineering college in Ramgarh district. He also stated that in 12 districts model colleges and 31 degree colleges will be set up. In technical education this year four new polytechnics will be set, while the work on three engineering colleges at Ramgarh, Koderma and Palamu is on war footing pace. Jamshedpur will get Professional College this year.

Das said that for skill development of students all higher education institutes will have placement cell, along with entrepreneur and incubation centre. Under the skill development proramme around 1.06 lakh youths have received job offer in a single day during Global Skill Summit held on January 10.
