The state government is planning to introduce ‘light rail’ system as a new public transport mode to ease the traffic pressure between Raipur and Durg.

As a pilot project, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has asked officials of Nuam Technopreneur Private Limited Mumbai to develop a light rail route between the busy Shashtri Chowk and Tatibandh.

Officials of the Mumbai-based company met Chief Minister here at Mantralaya on Friday.

During the meeting the officials of the Nuam Technopreneur Pvt Ltd informed the Chief Minister that light rail system is based on Russian Technology. This battery-operated rail has eight bogies that run on an elevated rout.

The modern coaches of the rail are fully air-conditioned, wifi equipped with sitting capacity of 1,068 passengers. The rail tracks could be used for installing street light and telecom cables. Construction of elevated rail line requires only 3X3 feet land, company officials stated.

The official proposed that the company will bear the complete project cost and after operating it for 30 years the project will be handed over to the state government.

As per company officials the light rail has a guaranteed life of 70 years and in past two years, they have already installed 100 km rail line and are operating the same. It could be also used as rail cargo, they added.

Forest Minister Mohammed Akbar, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Gaurav Dwivedi along with key officials participated in the meeting.
