nA target to plant 7 lakh saplings in the capital city, including Atal Nagar, Raipur Municipal Corporation wards and other peripheral areas, has been set for the year 2019 as part of an extensive plantation programme.
Forest Minister Mohammed Akbar on Saturday said that the target is to complete the plantation before end of July. The green cover will help control the pollution level in the capital city. He urged city residents to take care of the planted saplings.
Forest department officials said that complete area of Raipur has been earmarked for plantation. At Nava Raipur Atal Nagar, around 125 acres of land has been provided for plantation while in Raipur city limits, gardens, government office premises, residential colonies, premises of different educational institutions will be utilized. The fruit bearing and shade trees like neem, jamun, arjun, karanj and kachnar will be planted.
Officials further said that at Atal Nagar 5 feet saplings will be planted in Jungle safari, Forest Development Corporation and forest department specified areas. Saplings will be collected from Bilaspur, Balrampur, Dantewada and other areas. The participation of non-government organisations, school and college students and citizens will be ensured.
