Workers at a Gwynedd plastics factory say they have been hit with a cut in wages as bosses bid to make the site more competitive.

Staff at REHAU's Blaenau Ffestiniog site say a "pay cut" has been imposed on top of changes to shift patterns which has also reduced the average take home wage.

The company said it had made a "nominal reduction" to the annual bonus payment as part of measures to improve productivity.

Back in January REHAU announced it was closing its site at Amlwch on Anglesey with more than 100 jobs put at risk. The 90 day consultation on this closure is continuing.

A worker at the Blaenau factory, who asked not to be named, said that the cuts to hours and pay at Blaenau was forcing some staff to look for alternative jobs.

They said: "People can't afford to the lose the hours and now take a pay cut. Lots of colleagues looking for other jobs now."

They added that between the changes to shifts and the pay cut that one worker stood to lose £400 a month.

A spokesperson for REHAU said: "The management team at our Blaenau production facility has agreed to take a combination of measures to improve productivity at the Blaenau site.

"These changes will see some staff change shift pattern and others incur a nominal reduction to their annual bonus payment."
