A car overturned and burst into flames following a crash in Gwynedd.

Police and firefighters were called to Lon Y Wern in Pentir between Caernarfon and Bangor at around 11.30pm on Wednesday night.

The collision involved a Vauxhall Corsa and a Seat Ibiza.

The Corsa flipped on to its roof and set on fire but the driver managed to escape unharmed.

Police closed the road for more than hour with officers diverting traffic away from the scene.

A North Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We were called to Lon Y Wern in Pentir at 11.29pm following a road traffic collision. One car was on fire at scene.

"There was 100% fire damage to the car and some nearby hedging was also damaged.

"We used one hose reel jet and a thermal imaging camera. It was caused by flammable liquid in the engine compartment."
