Police officers have been conducting searches of an area on Anglesey today.

The search was centred on the grounds of St Mwrog's Church, Llanfwrog near Holyhead and took place this afternoon.

North Wales Police has now issued an appeal for information from anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity near the church.

However, in a statement issued this evening, the force said there is "no cause for concern" relating to the searches.

The statement comes amid reports on social media this afternoon that bomb disposal experts had been spotted in the area last night.

North Wales Police would not comment on the reports but said that "some items" had been recovered from the grounds during today's search.

In a post on Twitter, Graham Smith said he had seen police searching the area around the church this afternoon and had been near the site last night when "a bomb disposal team" was in attendance.

He also said "unconfirmed sources say a bomb has been found" in the tweet.

A North Wales Police spokesman said: "North Wales Police can confirm that our officers have been conducting a search of the grounds of St Mwrog Church in Llanfwrog, near Holyhead this afternoon, November 3.

"Police can confirm that some items were recovered in the grounds but stress that there is no cause for concern and no risk to the public. Whilst a police investigation continues however, no further details can be provided at this time."

Police have asked for anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area of the Church recently to contact them on 101, quoting incident number W156507.
