Strong winds from Storm Freya have seen 10 ships take shelter off the coast of Anglesey.

A number of cargo ships have been spotted waiting out the strong winds and choppy sea near Moelfre today.

Gusts of around 29mph have been recorded on Anglesey so far today with winds set to reach 43mph on the island by 11am on Tuesday.

It's not known when the boats will set sail but the Met Office said that Storm Freya is continuing to move away into the North Sea allowing winds in the east to ease.

Forecasters have warned that while winds are set to ease by the evening parts of the region could be hit by thunder and hail.

As Storm Freya leaves the region, the Met Office said that the jet stream will "continue to wave its way across the UK over the coming days" bringing unsettled conditions for the next few days.

The forecaster said that heavy rain will fall on Tuesday night with showers and strong winds predicted for much of the week.

Winds of up to 56mph are expected by Sunday afternoon, according to early forecasts from the Met Office.
