A unique opportunity to take part in a race around the picturesque Portmeirion is now open to runners and fans of cult TV Show The Prisoner.

The iconic village, famed for the hit 1960s television show The Prisoner, will host The 6th trail: Take no prisoners on Saturday April 12.

Continuing The Prisoner theme, the race distance will be 6km, starting and finishing in the village square and including the secretive, designated conservation area and tracks of the “Gwyllt” woods.

The trail run comes after Beck was announced as the headline act at this year's Festival No.6 at the Snowdonia beauty spot, to be held on September 5-7.

Portmeirion was designed and built in two stages by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1976 as an ideal holiday resort. The name comes from ‘Port’ to put it on the coast and ‘Meirion’ the correct spelling of Merioneth, the county in which is was located.

Designed to that of an Italian village, it shot to prominence after the 17-episode television series The Prisoner starring Patrick McGoohan was shot there in 1967.

Surrounded by 70 acres of exotic woodlands and magical trails, the race will be the first of its type at the village with an exclusivity of a limited number of athletes participating in order to respect the environment and area.

So far, 250 runners have signed up for the inaugural event with Race Organiser Stephen Edwards delighted at the initial response.

Speaking on the official website he said: “The main objective of the race / run is to get new runners into trail running, and for new runners to get confident in themselves to compete in races and aim higher and further in distance.”

He added: “We are very proud to be working with our friends at Portmeirion, and other supporters of the event plus all of the communities.
