He’s small, barefoot and lives in a fairytale house in the woods – but Stuart Grant says he’s more Seven Dwarfs than Hobbit.

The 86-year-old retired woodcutter, whose home has caused a stir with Lord of the Rings fans, says he’s never read the JRR Tolkien classic.

Stuart, whose Inverness-shire cottage features in tonight’s episode of Channel 4’s World’s Weirdest Homes, says his house is more Disney-inspired.

The 5ft 3in OAP, who built his Tormich bolthole in 1984 long before the Lord of the Rings books hit the big screen, said: “I’ve never read The Hobbit and my house predates the movies by decades. It’s just coincidental that even my door looks like the Hobbit doors in the films.

“I’ve tried to watch the movies but I fell asleep halfway through. I get a lot of Lord of the Rings fans coming to my door but it’s just my home not a Hobbit house.

“The stairs have an owl carved into each step which I copied from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs so I’m more Happy than Hobbit.”
