Stirling is set for another soaking.

Weather warnings covering much of Scotland, including Stirling and Clackmannanshire, are in place for rain today (Friday) and thunder storms tomorrow and Sunday.

Of Saturday’s weather, a Met Office forecaster said: “Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop through Saturday, lasting into the first part of Sunday.

“Whilst many areas will miss the worst of these thundery showers, a few spots could see 15-25 mm within an hour and 30-40 mm within three hours. It is possible that some of these may become slow-moving and prolonged - most likely across parts of southern Scotland, leading to the potential for 60-80 mm of rain in 6-12 hours.”

Throughout today (Friday) it’s forecast that a band of heavy rain, with some locally very heavy bursts, will continue to move northwards across northern England and Scotland.

A Met Office forecaster said: “Within this band 10-15 mm is widely expected, however some places could see as much as 30 mm in just a few hours. Some parts of northern and eastern Scotland may see 40-60mm of rain during this period.

“The rain will also be accompanied by strong winds, with gusts of 40-50mph possible across western parts of the country.

“Once the rain has cleared, the scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop. Many places will miss these, but where they do occur 10-20 mm is possible in one hour, with perhaps 30 mm in a few hours.”

Heavy downpours last weekend triggered a series of devastating mudslides along the north shoreline of Loch Katrine. Those staying at Glengyle were stranded when the landslips blocked off entrance roads and wiped out power lines and phone lines to properties.
