Being Ayrshire’s only accredited specialist in Agricultural Law, a farmer’s daughter, a farmer’s wife and a mother of two farming-mad sons, you would think that Margo McGill loved farming… well you would be right.

Whilst providing a first-class service to her clients and the long hours spent in the office, Margo manages to achieve the perfect work-life balance for her family.

This is one of the many reasons that she is one of just three finalists for Solicitor of the Year at the Law Awards of Scotland 2018.

The ceremony is this Thursday (Nov 29) at the Hilton in Glasgow.

Growing up on the family farm in Maybole, Margo has been involved in agriculture since a young age and knew that her career path would lead her into the agricultural industry.

Starting her legal career in the city, Margo worked at MacLay, Murray and Spens in Glasgow before moving closer to home at Howat’s Associates in Mauchline, to spend more time with her husband and two sons.

Margo then moved to become a Partner at Lockharts in Ayr, and now heads up their Agricultural and Estates Team.

Margo was nominated by one of her long-standing clients and will be attending the Awards.

Her firm Lockharts are presently rebranding their office and operation at Beresford Terrace.

Peter Lockhart told the Post: “The Partners and staff are proud of Margo.

"This is particularly so, given the two other finalists are high profile City Centre Lawyers.

It’s the first time in the Firm’s 143 year history, any Partner has been nominated for such a prestigious national award.

"The fact she should be nominated by a satisfied client, adds to the accolade.”
