A dozen community groups are set to share a slice of a £3500 council handout.

The cash was due to be awarded yesterday (Wednesday) at a meeting of the Hamilton Area Committee.

Bothwell Community Scarecrow Festival were in line for one of the biggest amounts, £500, which will go towards equipment for the annual event.

Quarter In Bloom were also set to receive £500 for an environmental project.

The Monday Club meet in Hamilton Old Parish Church and were expecting to receive £250 for outings and entrance fees.

Ladies from Burnbank Bowling Club were due to get £200 for an outing.

Uddingston District Churches United Men’s Fellowship have also planned outings and were in line to pick up £250.

Lanarkshire Ethnic Minority Action Group, based in Blantyre, were set to get £200 for outings.

The 30th Lanarkshire Scout Group, based at St John’s Church in Hamilton should have received £350 for an outing and equipment.

St Machan’s Church Guild, from Larkhall, were to receive £250 for an outing and entrance fees.

The Hamilton-based Handmades group were to get £250 for an outing and entrance fees.

ASN Parents Together, from Hamilton were in line to receive £250 for start-up costs.

The Art Room, in Hamilton, were to pick up £300 for an outing and materials.

And Blantyre Old Parish Senior Leisure Group were due to get £200 for an outing.

A report that went before councillors stated: “The council operates a community grants scheme to support local constituted community groups and voluntary organisations. Applications are invited throughout the financial year.

“All applications require to be supported by a constitution, audited accounts or annual income and expenditure accounts, a bank statement, and confirmation that the group/organisation will adhere to the conditions of the grant award.”
