Livingston woman Jenny Wilson has proved she is 100 years young when she recently celebrated her milestone birthday.

Jenny turned 100 surrounded by family and friends Livingston Care Home in Murieston.

Born on February 1, 1919 in Annan, Dumfriesshire, to Margaret and James Davidson, Jenny was educated at Greenknowe Primary School and then Annan Academy where she was Junior Girls sports champion.

During World War Two she served in the Land Army on a farm at Canonbie, Dumfriesshire.

On August 3 1954 she was married to John Wilson at St Andrew’s Greenknowe Church and moved to The Flosh, Cummertrees in Annan and for the next 10 years worked in a drapery shop on the High Street in Annan.

Her son, James, was born at Cresswell Maternity Hospital in Dumfries on August 15, 1955 and Jenny would become a housewife so she could pursue her interest in prize-winning home baking, gardening and helping her husband to extract honey from the bees they kept.

Jenny was also a member of Ruthwell Church Choir and guild and the local Women’s Rural Institute (WRI). She also served as secretary of Annan Horticultural Show in the 1960s and 1970s.

On September 17, 1983 her grandchildren Pamela and Stuart were born and she now has three great grandchildren, Kayleigh, Emily and Blake.

In April 1990 Jenny moved from Flosh to Millpark Crescent, Annan to look after her mum, who lived in the next block of flats.

Jenny was sadly widowed in May 2005 when her husband John died aged 85 and in 2014 she moved to Livingston to stay with son James and daughter-in-law Elaine and enjoyed attending Braid House in Howden three-times-a-week and took part in choir practice.

After a three-week stay at John’s Hospital in February 2017 she lost her mobility and moved into Livingston Care Home.

She enjoyed a lovely party surrounded by friends, staff and family to celebrate her special birthday.
