The swimming pool at Lanark Lifestyles has been forced to close for two days following an ‘accidental faecal release’.

South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture confirmed the pool and health suite was closed after the incident on Wednesday (March 21).

While the health suite at the venue reopened this morning, the pool was to remain closed until tomorrow (Friday) at 6.30am.

A spokesperson for South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture said: “Lanark Lifestyles pool and health suite were closed because of an accidental faecal release (AFR) incident.

“When this happens we have to close the pool immediately and carry out a strict cleaning regime to ensure any harmful bacteria is removed.

“This is carried out in line with Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group (PWTAG) guidelines. Timescale for this can vary based on volume of pool water, turnover and chemical treatment.

“The health suite re-opened today (Thursday) at 6.30am and the pool will re-open at 6.30am on Friday, March 22.

“We apologise for the inconvenience to our customers but public health is our priority. 

“Customers can help to reduce closures and keep our pools safe by:

·Avoid swimming if you feel unwell and especially if you have had vomiting or diarrhoea in the last 14 days.

·If your children are not fully toilet trained, make sure that they are wearing a well-fitting swim nappy.

·Encourage young swimmers to use the toilets before they come into the pool.  Ensure they leave the pool to use the toilet before it is too late.

·Use the showers before you enter the pool.

·If you start to feel unwell during your swim, stop and leave the water.

·If you do have an accident please let the lifeguards know straight away so it can be dealt with.  Don’t put other people at risk.”
