South Ayrshire Officers are warning local shopkeepers and the public to be aware of fraudulent notes in circulation.

Police Scotland have received a number of reports of incidents involving counterfeit notes in and around local stores in Ayr.

PC Dinnie commented “I am asking that local shop keepers in particular remain vigilant and take some time to confirm that notes are genuine.

“If you are unsure if the note is genuine or not then do not accept it or consider asking a colleague to check the note before accepting it”

If anyone suspects they have been passed counterfeit money, then they should contact the police by calling 101 or in an emergency by calling 999.
