A pensioner who died following a road crash in Kinross-shire last week has been named.

Eighty-year-old Andrew Bett, from Glenfarg, suffered fatal injuries when the car he was travelling in collided with a tree on the B996 Bein Inn to Glenfarg Road.

The accident happened just after 4.20pm last Friday, September 21.

Mr Bett was treated at the scene by paramedics before he was taken in an ambulance to Ninewells Hospital.

The road was closed off for several hours while investigators tried to establish what happened.

A spokesperson on behalf of Police Scotland said: “Our thoughts are with his family and friends who are understandably upset by their sudden loss and have said that he will be greatly missed.

“They do not wish to make any further comments and have requested that their privacy is respected at this difficult time.”

A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.

Councillor for Kinross-shire Callum Purves said: “I was very sorry to hear of the death of Mr Bett from Glenfarg following the tragic incident on the road between the Bein Inn and Glenfarg last week.

“My sympathies, and those of what is small, tight-knit, local community, are with Mr Bett’s family and friends at what must be an extremely difficult time.”

Councillor for Kinross-shire, Richard Watters, had a similar sentiment, saying: “I’m very sad to hear of the accident.

“My thoughts are with the family and friends of Andy Bett.”
