A West Lothian woman celebrated her 100th birthday on Monday, December 3, with a host of special days culminating on switching on the Christmas lights in Uphall this Saturday.

Mary Norris has been celebrating her centenary year in style with a number of parties and special days including a birthday lunch with 30 of her family at The Oatridge Hotel on Sunday.

Mary was born in Broxburn in 1918 and was the second youngest of 10 children.

Five of her brothers went to war but all thankfully came home while Mary worked in the munitions factory doing assembly during the war.

After the war she worked in Crawford’s in Edinburgh before finishing her career at Uphall Primary School.

Mary has lived the majority of her life in Uphall and is an active member of the Baptist Church in the village.

A very caring person, she looked after her mother and father and although she never married she has many nieces and nephews who are always looking out for her.

Mary also used to love holidays and travelling and on her last jaunt abroad went to Benidorm for 12 days with her niece at the age of 84.
