A WORKER who died after being struck by a dumper truck at an electricity substation has been named today as 61-year-old John Cameron.

Colleagues said Friday’s tragedy at Blackhillock Quarry, near Keith in Morayshire, happened when he was hit by the earth-moving vehicle being used to carry gravel.

Mr Cameron, who police said was from the north-east of England, was employed by contractor BAM Nuttall on upgrading a substation for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks.

Emergency services were called to the site between Keith and Huntly but Mr Cameron was pronounced dead at the scene.

Work at the site, the largest of its kind in the UK, was halted until yesterday to allow police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to carry out a joint investigation.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We are liaising with the Health and Safety Executive while inquiries into the circumstances continue.”

Colin Nicol, managing director at SSEN, said: “I would like to express our sincere condolences to the family and all those affected by today’s tragic incident.

“We are offering our full support to Siemens BAM as they liaise with the relevant authorities and commence the investigation.”
