A Scot wanted in the US over an alleged £1million shares scam has won a court victory as he fights a bid to have him extradited.

James Craig is accused of trying to distort prices on the Nasdaq exchange by starting Twitter rumours about companies.

It is alleged that when their share prices tumbled, he bought shares before selling at a profit once the panic he had generated was over.

The FBI want Craig to be extradited to be tried in a US court.

The 65-year-old from Dunragit, near Stranraer, Wigtownshire, denies all the allegations.

After a hearing at the Court of Session, Craig’s lawyers won a ruling saying the UK Government had acted unlawfully by failing to implement in Scotland a legal rule aimed at protecting UK citizens against extradition.

However, Judge Lord Malcolm refused a request to stop the extradition proceedings against Craig.

He said it would be for Scottish ministers to decide whether the extradition should go ahead in light of his ruling.
