A police box turned coffee shop on Edinburgh’s famous Royal Mile has been put up for sale.

The tiny ‘tardis’ is described as a “very profitable” cafe in the heart of the capital’s tourist trap Old Town.

Sellers marketing it as an ideal post- coronavirus business opportunity have slapped a £25,000 price tag on the snack bar.

Owners of the cafe are moving to the Highlands

“Excellent opportunity for post Covid19 start up due to expected domestic tourism increase,” reads the ad.

For four years the Canongate cafe has been selling drinks, ice creams and hotdogs from the box on the corner of Cranston Street.

With an annual turnover of up to £100,000, owners are now selling up and moving to the Highlands.

Sellers market the outlet as close to Waverley train station, the city council headquarters and a new tax office opening this summer with 3,000 staff.

The asking price is dwarfed by the amount fetched by another police box further up the Royal Mile, off Hunter Square.

Flamboyant businessman Kit Fraser forked out £102,000 for that box eight years ago - reportedly making it one of the most expensive pieces of property in Europe per square foot.

Millionaire Fraser made headlines the year before by stripping to his underwear outside the Royal Bank of Scotland at Gogarburn in protest at bankers stripping small businesses naked.

The former Holyrood candidate for the Ban Bankers' Bonuses party snapped up the pricey police box to turn it into a ticket office for tours of the capital.
