Tributes have been paid to a young tradesman who fell to his death while working at a homeless hostel in the capital.

Tragic Nathan Craig was installing wifi at the historic Muirhouse Mansions when he is believed to have fallen through a skylight.

Paramedics raced to the house at Marine Drive and tried to save the 21-year-old but he died a short time later at the scene from his injuries.

Friends have taken to social media to pay tribute to Nathan, from Airdrie , and have set up a fundraising page to create a memorial to the popular Celtic fan.

The man fell from the roof of the guesthouse and was pronounced dead at the scene

Sources said Nathan was working with colleagues installing wifi in the guest house, which is mostly used by the homeless community and student travellers, and was carrying a box on the roof when he is believed to have tripped and fell through the skylight.

The Health and Safety Executive have launched an investigation into the incident.

A friend, who asked not to be named, said: "He was a great guy with a fantastic sense of humour. He was always smiling. His family are devastated.

"It's heartbreaking to think he was just doing his job and didn't go home again. He was really popular and had lots of friends who are all shocked and heartbroken. We just can't believe it."

Cops were called to the scene at 11.10am this morning

Friend, Shannon Thomson, who has also created the fundraising page, wrote: "Canny believe am writing this r.i.p to my bestest canny believe we were meant to drink this Friday and you’ve left us. Fly High Nathan Craig."
