A benefits cheat who pocketed £17,000 public cash is a former madame who ran a brothel raking in £450,000.

Natalie Davis claimed she was disabled and in a wheelchair, but undercover investigators spotted her walking up and down stairs and carrying shopping bags when they became suspicious about her claim.

And when they raided her home, pictures of the 51-year-old riding elephants, climbing mountains and zip sliding were discovered.

Davis, who was jailed earlier this year for controlling prostitution, admitted dishonestly claiming benefits when she appeared in the dock yesterday, Bristol Live reports.

She admitted failing to notify the DWP of a change in her circumstances between 2010 and 2018.

Bristol Crown Court heard that she first received Disability Living Allowance in 1999, claiming she suffered from myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), a chronic fatigue syndrome, and asthma.

Prosecutor Lucy Taylor told the court that Davis was awarded the benefit indefinitely from 2006, when she said she still suffered from the conditions and was prone to panic attacks and obsessive compulsive disorder.

She said: "She said she was not able to walk.

"She said she could walk five metres before the pain was unbearable.

"She said that was seven days a week and she needed people to help her in and out of a wheelchair.

"She also said she could not go out alone due to panic attacks and she was at risk of falling in shops or in the street."

However, Davis took over Butterfly's massage parlour in Weston-super-Mare a year later, which was unmasked as a brothel in 2017. She raked in £450,000 over the 10 years in business.

Investigators found photographs from numerous exotic trips at her home, including snaps from an African safari in 2013, riding elephants in 2015 and climbing in Snowdonia in 2016.

She was also filmed running away from a BBC reporter filming as part on an Inside Out West investigation a year later.

Her defence lawyer said Davis' claim was initially legitimate, and her illness fluctuated.

Davis was jailed for two years and six months in January this year, but it was reduced to a suspended 12-month term on appeal.

She will be sentenced later today for the latest offence.
