Mark Warburton is convinced Steven Gerrard will lead Rangers to the title next May.

Gerrard was on Tuesday linked with a potential move to Derby County, a report that was later rubbished by Ibrox chiefs.

But Warburton , a former Rangers manager himself, firmly believes Gerrard only has eyes for usurping Celtic.

Their Parkhead rivals are bidding to make it nine successive championships before trying to create history with the mythical 10 in a row.

But current QPR boss Warburton insists Gerrard will stop Celtic at eight and lead Rangers to their first title since 2011.

Warburton is convinced Gerrard will achieve legendary status at Rangers

He told talkSPORT: "Steven is at a magnificent institution of a club.

"I’ve said many times I truly believe next season is Rangers’ season. They’ve gone what they’ve had to go through – which is a lot of managerial appointments and squad adaptations.

"But next year is Rangers’. Celtic will be aware of that – of what challenges they face. But Stevie will be very keen to stay at that great club, take it forward and stop Celtic’s run.

"He’ll want to establish himself as a legend of the club. Derby is a fantastic club with a genuine support but I’m sure Steven is keen to ignore any rumours and focus on Rangers."

Warburton recently signed former Rangers duo Lee Wallace and Liam Kelly as he looks to take QPR back to the Premier League.
