Aberdeen insist there has been no contact from Serie A giants Lazio despite reports in Italy insisting Sam Cosgrove is on the Roman giants' wanted list.

The Pittodrie club and Cosgrove's agent are adamant they know nothing of the link that featured in Italian newspapers and radio stations on Tuesday morning.

The big striker has scored nine goals in eight games this season and is also one of the top scorers in the Europa League.

Reports in Italy insist that the 22-year-old is a name that Lazio sporting director Igli Tare has on his shortlist as he looks for a cut-price targetman for boss Simone Inzaghi.

Cosgrove has scored nine goals already this season

The chances of move to Rome look remote and Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has already said his top scorer will be going nowhere in this window.

If anything was to happen it would take a big offer. Lazio are looking for a targetman to be back up to Italian international Ciro Immobile while they want to offload Felipe Caicedo.

Cosgrove also signed a new deal at Aberdeen last summer and is happy at Pittodrie.

McInnes signed him from Carlisle for a nominal fee in January last year.

Cosgrove was sent off on his debut against Celtic and took time to find his feet but after going on a scoring spree at the end of last year, he hasn’t looked back.

The former Wigan and Everton youngster finished second top scorer in the Scottish Premiership with 17 goals.

Cosgrove signed a new deal last year and still has more than two seasons left on it.
