Police say off-duty Trenton officer fired at suspect fleeing Home Depot in White Rock area

The incident took place in the 11200 block of Garland Road

Police are investigating after an off-duty Trenton police officer fired his weapon at someone who was fleeing a Home Depot on Friday in the White Rock area.

Officers responded about 11 a.m. to the 11200 block of Garland Road, near Jupiter Road, where they were met by the officer, who was working an off-duty job in full police uniform.

The officer told police he had tried to detain the person as he fled the store, but the person was able to enter a vehicle from the passenger side.

He said the person tried to accelerate while the occupant of the vehicle got out and ran to safety.

The off-duty officer fired a single shot but it is unknown whether he hit the person, who fled the location in the vehicle and remains at large.

Police did not say why the officer tried to detain the suspect.

No one else was reported injured.

Trenton is about 52 miles northeast of Dallas
