A top leader of NSCN (IM), Khole Konyak, died in a hospital in New Delhi on Wednesday, following a cardiac arrest.

Konyak, 87 was vice-president of the rebel group, which signed a broad framework agreement with Narendra Modi government in August 2015 to solve the decades-long Naga conflict. Sources in NSCN (IM) told DH that Konyak was actively associated with the process to work out a final agreement, likely to be signed with the Centre.

The NSCN (IM) led a long violent Naga movement before entering into a ceasefire with the Centre in 1997. The outfit's headquarters is now situated at Hebron in Nagaland.

Sources said Konyak's body is likely to be brought to Nagaland after a condolence meeting at Nagaland House in New Delhi on Thursday.
