Looking for ways to spend your free time in Wilmington?

Just ask Stephen Colbert and Aubrey Plaza.

As a guest on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" on Friday, Plaza joined Colbert for a segment called "Community Calendar," in which the duo detailed, and poked fun at, events happening near Wilmington.

Plaza, of course, grew up in Wilmington, attending Ursuline Academy for high school. She's now an accomplished Hollywood actress, having starred in shows such as NBC's "Parks and Recreation" and movies such as "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" and "Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates."

Colbert teased the segment by asking Plaza where she was from and sharing that he loves small towns, especially his hometown of James Island, South Carolina.

"Now that's big for Delaware," Colbert said of Wilmington. "But small for pretty much everywhere else isn't it?"

The show transitioned to the segment with a montage of Wilmington sites including the Caesar Rodney statue and the Rockford Tower. An effect was put on the montage and the following segment to make it appear as though it were a classic public-access show.

"Welcome to Community Calendar, your source for what's happening in and around Wilmington, Delaware, and the greater Brandywine Valley area," Colbert said to open the segment. "Joining me is native Wilmingtononian Aubrey Plaza."

"Thank you, Stephen, and you know what we say in Wilmington, 'It's a Wilming-ton of fun,'" Plaza replied.

"Oh, I'm Del-aware of that," Colbert retorted.

Actress and Wilmington native Aubrey Plaza stops on the red carpet at The Grand in 2012 for a movie screening that doubled as a Wilmington Drama League fundraiser.

Sitting next to each other with coffee mugs in their hands, Colbert and Plaza then ran through a list of local events including the Wilmington Pirate Festival on June 29 and the American Helicopter Museum and Education Center's FatherFest on June 16.

Many of the ensuing jokes were based on the event's own online descriptions.

"A family-friendly day of pirate and maritime-themed swashbuckling fun," Plaza read from the website. Then she added, "So throw on an eye patch, strap on a wooden leg, then ransack a passing ship, take their crew prison, succumb to scurvy and get hanged for your crimes.

"Plus, face painting."

The FatherFest description promises classic cars, motorcycles and a beer garden.

To which Plaza replied, "So stop by and see what happens when you mix vehicles, alcohol and middle-aged despair."

Plaza appeared on the show to promote her latest movie, "Child's Play," a remake of the 1988 cult classic horror film. It will be released on June 21.
