Wilmington shootings: 22-year-old becomes 8th victim since Monday

A 22-year-old man is stable after being shot Sunday evening, Wilmington police said in a press release. 

The shooting occurred at about 5 p.m. in the 2200 block of Locust St., police said. 

Police say the 22-year-old victim was taken to an area hospital.

Sunday's shooting caps a week in which eight people were shot in Wilmington.

Four of the victims were 20 years old or younger.

Counting Sunday's shooting, 72 people have been shot, 11 fatally, so far this year in Wilmington, according to The News Journal/Delaware Online's shooting database.

This was the fourth person shot near the Prices Run area this week.

Police investigate a shooting in the 2200 block of Locust Street Sunday.

On Friday, a 15-year-old boy was shot Friday at about 9:30 p.m. near 13th and Thatcher streets, according to Wilmington police. Police said the boy was transported to the hospital and was "stable."

On Thursday, police were in the 2200 block of Locust St. investigating another shooting. Investigators said a 24-year-old man was shot then. 

14-year-old boy was shot while in the area of 23rd and Pine streets, also on Thursday, and a 29-year-old woman was shot in the area of 23rd and Lamotte streets on Tuesday. 

When asked Friday about the increased violence in the city, Wilmington police spokesman David Karas said, "As with any shooting incident that occurs, our investigators, patrol officers and specialized divisions gather and share intelligence and develop response plans to best mobilize resources as we work to identify those responsible and prevent future incidents."
