An 18-year-old woman who was shot in the head in a Sunday evening drive-by shooting in Dover is expected to fully recover, Dover police said.

According to police, officers were responding to reports of a shooting in the 100 block of Willis Road at about 8:40 p.m. when they were flagged down by a car that was driving the victim to the hospital, police said.

Officers escorted the car to Kent General Hospital and stayed with the victim while she was treated, while additional officers responded to the scene where the shooting happened.

At the scene, they found several shell casings, police said. The driver of the car told them he and the 18-year-old were nearby when two black men began firing at his car.

The shooters hit the car about 14 times on the driver's side, with one of the rounds hitting the 18-year-old in the head.

An occupied home in the area was also hit, though none of the people who were inside suffered injuries.

Police said the 18-year-old is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
