A woman robbed a Home Depot in Newark with a knife last Wednesday but was later arrested by an officer who convinced her to drop the blade, police said.

Newark officers went to the Suburban Drive Home Depot for a shoplifting call, but learned while there a woman threatened an employee with a knife before fleeing, police said.

Sherri Phillips was charged with first-degree robbery, possession of a deadly weapon while committing a felony and concealing it, and resisting an arrest with force.

A plain clothes officer saw the woman with the knife, later identified as 44-year-old Newark resident Sherri Phillips, and confronted her, police said. She pointed the blade at him but eventually dropped the knife and was taken into custody, police said.

Newark police said 59-year-old Raymond Strong and 45-year-old Brian Dunlap, both Elkton, Maryland residents, participated in the initial shoplifting. They were arrested.

Phillips was charged with first-degree robbery, possession of a deadly weapon while committing a felony and concealing it, and resisting an arrest with force.

She was jailed in lieu of $74,000 secured bail.

Strong was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon and released on a $1,000 unsecured bail. Dunlap was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, criminal impersonation, possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest before being released a $1,520 unsecured bail.
