Wilmington-area woman stabbed to death had domestic abuse order against suspect

Police say they have arrested a man after he stabbed his ex-wife to death early Tuesday outside an apartment complex south of Wilmington. 

The victim had a domestic abuse protective order against him, New Castle County Police said. 

Carlos Ferrer-Vasquez, 36, has been charged with first-degree murder, possession of a deadly weapon, violating a domestic violence protective order, and possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited.  

Dimary Vasquez-Rolon, 32, died at the hospital from several upper-torso stab wounds, Master Cpl. Michel Eckerd of New Castle County Police said. 

She was found in the parking lot at Maryland Park Apartments on Robinson Court off North Maryland Avenue around 12:30 a.m.

Witnesses told police she saw Ferrer-Vasquez confront his ex-wife in the parking lot right after she got home, court documents obtained by The News Journal reveal. 

He stabbed her multiple times and drove off. 

Ferrer-Vasquez called relatives and told them what he had done, court documents said. One family member told police said they had a missing kitchen knife that matched the description of the murder weapon.

A woman was killed south of Wilmington early Tuesday morning. New Castle County Police arrested a suspect in the stabbing.

Ferrer-Vasquez left the scene of the stabbing, but returned with an acquaintance and was taken into custody, Eckerd said. His jacket and jeans were blood-soaked, according to court documents. 

In 2017, Ferrer-Vasquez was arrested for offensive touching and charges were dropped. In January of this year, he was charged with offensive touching, theft, reckless endangerment and driving infractions. 

County officers were still parked and standing around a triangle of crime scene tape cordoning off blood-stained pavement after daybreak Tuesday.
