A man was shot leaving Allure Night Club in Dover early Sunday, city police said.

The victim, 38, was leaving the club just before 2 a.m. Sunday morning when he was shot, police said. When he walked outside, he saw a large group of people arguing, then heard gunfire, he told police.

The man was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle, where staff contacted police. His injuries were not life-threatening, the Dover Police Department said.

Allure Nighclub is at 865 N. Dupont Highway, in front of Home Depot and near the Dover International Speedway and Delaware State University.

This is not the first shooting at the popular nightclub, which is on North DuPont Highway in the shadow of the Dover International Speedway. Allure is located directly in front of the Home Depot and less than a half mile from Delaware State University.

In May, an onlooker was shot in the hip during a fight in the parking lot, police said. Officers were already there for another fight and were arresting another person with a gun when the shots were fired.

In April, three people were stabbed or cut during a large fight outside the club, police said.

Two more people were shot in October 2017, police said. Despite hundreds of people in attendance, no witnesses came forward with information about the shooter(s).

After that shooting, the owners of the club sought to distance themselves from the crime, telling WBOC 16 that the gunman had been ejected from the building before it happened and that a private party being held there was not connected.

But police said the victims named Allure as the location of the shooting and said they were patrons.
