Gun violence continues in Wilmington: 15-year-old boy shot Friday night

A teenage boy was shot Friday night in Wilmington, becoming the seventh shooting victim this week in Delaware's largest city.

Four of the victims are 20 years old or younger. 

The latest is a 15-year-old boy, shot Friday at about 9:30 p.m. near 13th and Thatcher streets, according to Wilmington Police. Police said the boy was transported to the hospital and is "stable."

Police did not offer any further information.

When asked Friday about the increased violence in the city, Wilmington Police spokesman David Karas said, "As with any shooting incident that occurs, our investigators, patrol officers and specialized divisions gather and share intelligence and develop response plans to best mobilize resources as we work to identify those responsible and prevent future incidents."

Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki's office did not respond to requests for comment on the shootings.

In 2019 there have been 71 shooting victims in Wilmington, which is 20 more than at this point a year ago. In all of last year, 78 people were shot in the city.

A 17-year-old boy was shot near the city's Hedgeville neighborhood on Banning Street Friday around 12:10 a.m. He was taken to a hospital and released.

A 24-year-old man was shot near Prices Run on Locust Street less than four hours earlier.

He was the third person shot in the Prices Run area this week, after a 14-year-old boy was shot near 23rd and Pine Streets Thursday and a 29-year-old woman was shot near 23rd and Lamotte streets Tuesday.
