Days after a 26-year-old was injured in a shooting on Lombard Street in Wilmington, police charged the man they believe is responsible.

Shyheim Bordrick, 25, was arrested Tuesday, which police announced Thursday. He was charged with assault, resisting arrest and two firearms-related charges.

Wilmington police initially responded to the 900 block of Lombard St. after receiving reports of a shooting at about 4:15 p.m. Saturday, DelawareOnline/The News Journal previously reported.

There, they found the victim injured, though have not said where he was shot. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, police said.

Following the shooting, the case was assigned to Wilmington police Det. Charlie Puit, who identified Bordrick as a suspect, police said.

Puit obtained a warrant for Bordrick's arrest, and officers who were on "proactive patrol" located him in the 700 block of East 10th St. at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday.

Though he initially led officers on a foot chase, Bordrick was ultimately taken into custody without incident, police said.

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $180,000 cash bail, which Wilmington police Capt. Malcolm Stoddard applauded.

“The diligent investigative efforts of our detectives have resulted in an arrest less than a week after this incident,” Stoddard said.
