Delaware State Police have identified the Lewes man who died Friday morning after a crash with a box truck.

Dale Carter, 56, was driving a Chongqing scooter west on U.S. 9 (Kings Highway) in Lewes when a Freightliner box truck ran a stop sign on Clay Road, according to police. Police said the driver of the box truck slowed down, but didn't make a complete stop.

In an attempt to avoid being hit, Carter swerved to the left, but was still hit by the truck, police said. He was taken to Beebe Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
