The state of Delaware will be represented by three players in the annual Senior Bowl, a prestigious game for college seniors to showcase their skills in front of NFL general managers, coaches and scouts.

They are David Sills V, who began his collegiate career at West Virginia as a highly-touted quarterback before converting to wide receiver; University of Delaware safety Nasir Adderley; and Maryland safety Darnell Savage, who played at Caravel Academy.

All have accepted invitations to play in the Jan. 26 game in Mobile, Alabama. Just about all the players in the Senior Bowl end up getting invitations to the NFL scouting combine in February in Indianapolis, an event for probable draftees in the NFL draft that will be held in late April.

Sills made national headlines as a 13-year-old seventh grader at Red Lion Christian Academy in 2010 when he was offered a scholarship to play quarterback at Southern Cal beginning in 2015.

He decided to attend West Virginia after a coaching change at USC while Sills was in high school. After a year at quarterback with uneven results, Sills decided to keep his quarterback dream alive by transferring to El Camino College, a junior college in Los Angeles.

When that didn't work out, he returned to the Mountaineers as a wide receiver in 2017.

Since then, Sills, who's 6-foot-4, 203 pounds, has put together two strong seasons. Sills was named to the AP All-American third team on Monday. He has 61 catches for 896 yards and 15 touchdowns this season. West Virginia will play Syracuse in the Camping World Bowl in Orlando on Dec. 28.

As a junior, Sills led the nation in touchdown catches with 18. He had 60 receptions for 980 yards.

Sills is the only player in West Virginia history to have two seasons with at least 15 touchdown receptions.

Adderley, meanwhile, is the only player in FCS with 160-plus tackles and at least nine interceptions the last two years.

But Adderley is most known for a kickoff return at New Hampshire earlier this season in which he ran over a defender, stoppped, then kept going for a 92-yard touchdown. ESPN’s SportsCenter named his return No. 1 in its list of top plays around college football that day.

Adderley is the sixth UD player to play in the Senior Bowl, joining Dennis Johnson (1973), Ben Patrick (2007), Joe Flacco (2008), Nick Boyle (2014) and Bilal Nichols (2018).

Savage has started the last three seasons for Maryland. This season, Savage has four interceptions along with 51 tackles and 5.5 tackles for losses. He was named to the All-Big Ten second team.

CORRECTION: Savage was not included in the initial report about players with Delaware ties who have accepted invitations to the Senior Bowl.
