No reports of severe weather damage in Delaware overnight, weather service says

Overnight rainstorms are moving out of the area Saturday morning, and forecasters at the National Weather Service haven't heard any reports of severe weather or damage.

The storms blowing in from the south were the second round of intense rain to sweep up to the East Coast recently, both having brought tornadoes with them. Two tornadoes touched down in Delaware earlier this week, but none appear to have formed overnight.

Overnight storms had mostly moved out of Delaware by mid-morning Saturday.

It was a gusty, rainy night for Delaware, NWS meteorologist Joe Miketta said.

A flash flood watch was issued because expectations were for rainfall between 1-3 inches, he said. Delaware saw significantly less than that.

  • Bethany Beach: 2.1 inches of rain
  • Laurel: 1.6 inches of rain
  • Georgetown: 1.2 inches of rain
  • Wilmington: 0.8 inches of rain

Some scattered showers may persist through Saturday, Miketta said. But he said the heaviest rainfall already has passed. The flood watch has been canceled.
