Summer Sports: SIdes, Headley help Concord crowd the leaders

The top of the Delco League standings is getting mighty crowded.

Nate Sides and Matt Headley drove in two runs each to help the Concord Canes move into a tie for second place with a 4-2 triumph over league leading Upper Darby Monday.

The Canes picked up three points to tie Chester with 31 points, three points behind the Blue Sox. The top six teams are separated by seven points. Ryan Johnston went five innings to get the win. Frank Saviski tossed the final two frames to earn the save.

Elsewhere in the Delco League:

Narberth 5, Springfield 1 >> Lee Lipinski ripped a tie-breaking solo homer in the bottom of the fourth inning and a two-run single an inning later to pace the defending champions. He also pitched a scoreless inning in relief.

Tommy Toal drove in two runs, and T.J. Chism and Ian Diaz chpped in with two hits each. Starter Steve DiBattista allowed three hits and struck out three in five innings to get the win.

Norm Donkin drove in the only run for the Colonials.

Marple Newtown 4, Chester 2 >> Nick Cerelli ripped a two-run homer and Corey Woodcock added an RBI single to highlight a three-run outburst by the Black Sox in the top of the third inning.

Woodcock finished 2-for-2 with one RBi and one run scored. Cerelli also scored a run. Eddie Gallagher went six innings and struck out four to get the win. Owen Margolis picked up the save.

In the Main Line Prep Legion action from Sunday:

Aston-Media 12, Valley Forge 0 >> Dylan Hall collected two hits and three RBIs and Gavin Wray earned his second win of the season.

Caden Price also had two hits and catcher Noah Griffin threw out three runners trying to steal.

In Senior EDCO action from Sunday:

Briarcliffe 3, Marple II 2 >> Rian Bluford ripped a walk-off two-run single with two outs in the seventh inning. Kevin Parks raced around the bases to score the winning run. Sean Quigley went the route to get the victory.

Softball

It took the guys from Boss Automotive a little while to get their offense in gear. Once they did, though, there was no stopping the Automen.

Boss scored all of its runs in the last four innings to erase a six-run deficit and pull out a 10-8 victory over Goshen Beverage in the Gold Division of the Brandywine Valley Senior Softball League.

Ralph Camardelli paced the offense with four hits. Ron Mento, Mike Dalesio, Larry Riggs, Bill Auve and Jerry Montella pitched in with three safeties each.

In Penn-Del Over-50 action:

DA Union 6-0, Upland AC 3-1 >> Kirk Norwood (three RBIs), Greg Howell (two RBIs) and Stephon Hutton (RBI triple) supplied all the offense Tony Evans needed to get the win for DA Union in the opener. Eric Kegler played a solid shortstop in both games.

Tony Zambino tossed a shutout in the nightcap to help Upland AC earn a split.
