Earlier this week, KFC announced some *major* news: They're debuting two Mac & Cheese Bowls. And as if that weren't enough, the chain has decided to make the side dish a main meal.

The new menu item, which is being touted as "a cheesy twist on KFC's popular famous bowls," is available two ways. The classic style is your run-of-the-mill mac (cheesy, gooey, amazing) topped with popcorn chicken and a three-cheese blend. While the latter is a spicier take with Nashville hot sauce. It's landing in restaurants nationwide beginning August 26.

"Mac and Cheese has a cult-like following, and bowl food is a trend that isn't going away anytime soon," the brand's U.S. CMO Andrea Zahumensky said in a statement. "So, it made perfect sense to call up a favorite side dish to the big leagues, in a way that only we could, with Mac and Cheese Bowls."

Oh, and they're part of the whole $5 Fill Up concept, aka you get a famous bowl, medium drink, and chocolate chip cookie all for, you guessed it, FIVE BUCKS. The menu also features the chain's famous fried chicken, Pot Pies, and Famous Bowls, all offered grab-n-go style.

KFC partnered with food critic and host of OMKalen, Kalen Allen, for a first taste, and his reaction was quite the endorsement. "KFC's new Mac & Cheese Bowl is ridiculously good and if you watch my shows, everyone knows how I feel about unseasoned or flavorless food, so I wouldn't be saying this if it wasn't true," he said. "The combination of KFC's mac and cheese, popcorn chicken, and then sprinkled with MORE cheese is Kalen approved."
