Doug and Mary Scrivner this week gave the University of Denver $14 million to support public policy teaching, research and scholarship, and, in return, the Scrivner Institute of Public Policy was named in the couple’s honor.
The Scrivners’ gift is especially significant as the university prepares for a public launch of a major campaign that will bring its bold vision for the future of higher education into reality, DU Chancellor Rebecca Chopp said in a news release. The university is committed to addressing the world’s most pressing problems that increasingly demand broad academic collaboration, Chopp said.
Doug Scrivner, a graduate of DU Law School, has served on the university’s Board of Trustees and chaired the board from 2014 to 2018. During his tenure as board chair, he worked closely with Chopp to pursue and begin implementing the university’s strategic plan, DU IMPACT 2015.
The Scrivners’ $14 million gift is part of an overall $16.2 million commitment that also includes $1 million to support program and initiatives that advance that university’s mission.
