A man killed Tuesday afternoon in a shootout with the Jefferson County sheriff’s SWAT unit has been identified.
SWAT members encountered Michael Sheridan, 34, in the parking lot of an apartment complex near West Belleview Avenue and South Alkire Street, where Sheridan was fatally shot after firing on officers, the sheriff’s office said Wednesday in a news release.
The SWAT team was assisting Denver police and the FBI in apprehending Sheridan, who was wanted on a warrant for felony menacing, third-degree assault and possession of a weapon by a previous offender, the sheriff’s office said.
An investigation into the officer-involved shooting is ongoing. The Lakewood Police Department is the lead agency in the investigation. Findings will be presented to the Jefferson County district attorney’s office.
