A woman who was shot and killed by Denver police has been identified.

Jamie Fernandez, 31, was shot in the alleyway in the 1400 block of Osceola and Perry streets and was taken to Denver Health Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, according to the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner.

The cause of her death was from multiple gunshot wounds, the coroner’s office said in a news release. Her manner of death has been ruled a homicide.

Two Denver officers, who have not been identified, have been placed on modified duty after the Thursday night shooting.

Officers were chasing Fernandez, on foot, down the alley at about 11:30 p.m. when she turned and fired a gun at them, police said. They came in contact with her while investigating an SUV described as “a vehicle of interest.”

Aurora police are investigating the shooting. Denver’s independent monitor’s office will conduct a separate investigation. The Denver District Attorney’s Office will review the case for possible criminal charges, Denver police said.
